Follow the traces of the trappers that wandered through the mighty winterly woods of Canada on their search for freedom! With snow shoes the group starts over the white, snow-covered and untouched fields. The snow glitters, and soon, everybody is well warmed by the physical action. “By the way, where do we go?” With map and compass the participants start orienteering and find the right way themselves.
Of course, a real trapper needs to know how to arrange for a place to stay overnight, just in case. Therefore, the participants will build an igloo or a snow cave. Teamwork is vital, only if everybody helps, can the igloo be a solid one.
From far away you can hear the huskies howling their call for freedom. From an experienced musher the participants learn a lot about these fascinating animals and how to handle them. Finally everybody gets a chance to do a round with the harnessed huskies sledge – that’s real trapper feeling!
Once the darkness closes in, the program continues in the flickering light of flaming torches. Finally the day ends with a mug of mulled wine around the fire that the participants have sparked themselves. The trappers’ vow used by trappers since the ancient times to ensure mutual support and help closes the event in the firelight – team work in a different way!
