Nothing shapes more lasting than our own experiences. This is the principle of the Institution for Experiential Education: a joint venture of the clinic Wollmarshoehe and faszinatour. Here, medicine, psychology, research in the field of the theory of learning, and decades of experience in outdoor-trainings come together in order to develop new learning – and teaching methods for all branches of society.
Dr. med Kilian Mehl from the clinic Wollmarshoehe explains why this is essential: “80% of our actions are a result triggered by unconscious impulses.“ These impulses are results of experiences we make throughout our lives. “If we know these tracks, we are enabled to find new routes, to create new road maps in the brain.“ The more routes are available to us, the more flexible our reactions to challenges, and the more comfortable we deal with changes. At the same time it influences us as being more self-confident, creative, and open towards novelties, as well as increasing the development of social competencies. This is exactly what society and businesses need.
The key to all this is learning through private, intensive experiences. The institute for Experiential Education facilitates those through a wide variety of projects and trainings, for example in the high ropes course. Program points might be topics like self evaluation and team-behavior, overcoming fears and mental blocks, giving and demanding support, clarifying roles, and many more. Sustainability and transfer into everyday life (be it private or professional), are granted automatically through impressive, literally substantial experiences. At the end, nothing shapes more than the individual experience.
