Usually taking 3 days, 50% of the typical project management training occurs in the outdoors. In project simulations, the project leaders or project teams experience the traps of project work and methodically learn how to work on a project.
Company Y introduces a new, 18 people strong project team,to design an innovative center for development. In the end, this center is supposed to develop products using 30% less time and 30% lower costs. The participants all have experience working on projects.
In the beginning, the participants receive information about failed or successful projects, and the common problems of project work. After the sensitization, participants are lead into active project work. The topic is to plan and implement the proto-type of a chicken farm. Receiving multilateral briefings, the participants put two project teams together, define their structures, call in meetings, build and develop, conduct evaluations, and, in the end, present their project.
On the second day, the project accomplishments will be evaluated and compared to an exemplary project course. In the morning of the third day, another project will be assigned which brings what was learned into application and deepens it at the same time. In the afternoon, the evaluation takes place. Apart from the technical project organization, it will be made clear how big of a role social competences and emotional intelligence play for the success of a project group.
