Outdoor- or outdoor supported trainings are part of the category behavior trainings. Behavior is a holistic learning-process starting at birth and being applied in the long-term. By holistic we mean that all human dimensions which are body, spirit, and soul will be addressed.
The theory of learning as well as latest brain research states and proves that learning will be most sustainable through personal experiences. If you would like to learn team- or leadership behavior (over again), the only way to do so is through personal experiences, but not, for instance, through knowledge acquired by reading.
We transfer participants into uncommon learning situations, which merely target behavior observation and change. Being the essential advantage of this method, the immediate experience the participants make, explains their intrinsic behavior patterns. Only the experience and the reflection of this experience create new behavior patterns. The critical element of the outdoor method is the (learning) transfer; here, participants associate the learning experiences with every-day situations and interrelations of life. The Experiential Learning and Judgement Paradigm (Simon Priest)
…”If we do something, if we try something we have never tried before, if we dare something new, in short, if we create actively and take action, we store these new competences in deep, subconscious parts of our brain. Concerned are parts of the brain scientists call lymbic system, amygdala, or nucleus accumbens. These subconscious memories are the emotional check points for active participation and events.”
